Sara’s experience showed us both the power of community and the gaps that can exist within it.
Our Mission
Sara’s Story Foundation was born from one woman’s story – but exists to change the story for the families who come after her.
We support individuals and families facing illness, loss, and life-changing hardship with nourishing food, practical support, meaningful connection, and a community ready to show up when they need it most.
We take something off their plate when life feels overwhelming. We fill it with nourishment, comfort, and care when they need it most - because caring for someone means caring for the whole family.
Our Vision
A world where no family has to face life’s hardest moments alone – and no one who wants to help has to wonder how.
Sara’s Story
Sara was a beloved mother, daughter, and friend. She was the kind of person whose life was deeply intertwined with the people around her – and when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, those people wanted to do everything they could to help.
We watched our community rally around Sara and her family. People brought meals. They gave generously. They offered their time, their resources, their kindness, and their love. They showed up in every way they knew how.
And in watching that community come together, we learned something important.
When a family is facing illness, loss, or another life-changing hardship, there is so much more happening than what we see on the surface. There is the person who is sick, but there is also the caregiver trying to hold everything together. There are children trying to understand what is happening. There are meals to figure out, errands to run, schedules to manage, and everyday life that somehow keeps moving forward.
And often, there is a community of people asking the same question: How can I actually help?
Sara’s experience showed us both the power of community and the gaps that can exist within it. We learned that even the most loving support can become overwhelming when a family is already carrying too much. That caring for someone means caring for the whole family. And that sometimes, the most meaningful help is simply taking one more thing off someone’s plate.
We also saw just how powerful it can be when people have a meaningful way to show up.
Sara’s Story Foundation was created from that experience.
We want to make it easier for people to help – and easier for families to receive that help. To turn generosity into meaningful support. To provide nourishment when meals feel like one more thing to worry about. To connect families with practical resources. To care for caregivers. To remember the children. And, above all, to remind families that they are surrounded.
Because Sara’s story ended far too soon - but the love that surrounded her did not.
We carry that love forward by showing up for the next family who needs us: taking something off their plate, filling it with nourishment, comfort, and care, and reminding them that they are not alone.
Helping another family feel less alone is how Sara’s story continues.
